NBA Rumors Ruminations
By Nolan Sinclair
- The Phoenix Suns seem to be imploding. Numerous times this season players have aired their complaints publicly and nothing good has come of it. Players are either disappointed with the overall play, disappointed in coaching decisions, or disappointed that they aren’t getting enough minutes, points, or stats. This is all coming from the team that always seemed to be having more fun than any other in the NBA.
With Mike D’Antoni they were run, gun, and fun, now with Terry Porter they are complaining, bickering, and most importantly not covering spreads. Earlier in the year Amare Stoudemire was upset that he wasn’t getting the stats he was used to and that the Suns weren’t the uptempo team they had been in the past. Now, Shaq and Steve Nash have had words with the media, coach, and Suns executives about what needs to be done to right the ship in Phoenix. Nash feels that many times during games the Suns are not “together on the floor” and Shaq feels that plain and simple, they need to “man up.” Could Terry Porter’s days be numbered in Phoenix? Not this year, but he may be the Phoenix Suns version of the rapper Snow and his multiplatinum hit, “Informer”…one and done!
- New rumor around the NBA is that Mike Miller is quickly becoming available for the right price. Two teams that might be interested are the New Jersey Nets and the Cleveland Cavaliers. If Miller went to the Nets it would almost make New Jersey a lock to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference as he would make a nice third scoring option along with Devin Harris and Vince Carter. Especially with the way Brooke Lopez is improving game by game. Cleveland would also be a nice fit for Miller as he would meld together nicely with LeBron and Co. Miller’s overall floor game is underrated as he is a great passer and an above average rebounder. With him and Wally’s World as snipers on the perimeter, and with steady and improving big men underneath, I thinkt he Cavs would become my personal favorite to take the title. Keep an eye on this situation as it develops as the Nets and Cavs would improve SU and ATS.
- As the trade deadline approaches Mavs fans are sitting on pins and needles wondering if this team will make any moves to improve their squad. The Mavs will look to improve their team around Dirk Nowitzki as they have made it extremely obvious that he is the stallion in the Mavericks organization and they will ride him to the promise land, for better or worse. This Mavs team has three solid players around Dirk in Jason Terry, Jason Kidd, and Josh Howard, but they are looking for that big name to make an even bigger splash.
I personally don’t see the Mavs making any moves that would jeopardize their chances of landing a big name in 2010. It is becoming obvious that if you aren’t one of the top three or four teams in each conference you are just preparing your team for the opportunity to improve in 2010.
